L'AGAPANTO è un bulbo che appartiene alla Famiglia delle Liliaceae la cui origine è prevalentemente del Sud Africa , in particolare l'area che si estende dal Capo al fiume Limpopo .Quasi certamente deriva da questa origine il nome comune di "Giglio del Nilo" , anche se non è propriamente un giglio e non viene dall'Egitto.

Si trova con facilità anche nelle zone calde d'Europa, mediterranee, dove fiorisce tra Maggio e Giugno, mentre in zone più fresche la fioritura avviene in Luglio-Agosto. Ama quindi zone soleggiate e terreni ricchi ma ben drenati.

Il fiore scaturisce da un bulbo , dunque, su uno stelo che può raggiungere i 70 cm di altezza , arricchito  alla base da lunghe foglie spadiformi  di color verde  intenso .

La Moltiplicazione avviene per seme o per divisione dei rizomi in primavera.

Non resiste in inverno , se non per alcune specie molto rustiche che possono sopportare  fino a -5°C , diversamente occorre proteggere il bulbo fino alla nuova stagione. Alcune tipologie di afidi possono infastidire la fioritura

Esistono  diverse specie (da 6 a 10) di Agapantho ma le più note sono:

- Agapanthus Africanus (in foto)  dai fiori BLU

- Agapanthus campanulatus  con fiori BIANCHI

- Agapanthus HEADBOURNE  sia nel tipo a fiori bLU che quello a A fiori Bianchi

The Agapanthus is a bulb which belongs to the Family of Liliaceae and which origin is mainly to South Africa , particularly the area from teh Cape region to the Limpopo River . This is why it is also commonly known as "Lily of the Nile" , although it is not a real Lily and it doesn't come from the area of the Nile river.

It's easly found in the warmer  Mediterranean regions , where it blooms between May and Jule, while in other cooler areas it comes out only in July-August . The plant  needs  rich and well drained soil and sunny locations.

The flowers blooms on top of a long stem which can rise  up to 70 cm high at the base of which several long sword-shaped dark gree leaves grow up. The flower can suffer from the attack of some aphid presence.

Water regularly but not too much to mantain humidity stable. Multiplication by seeds or division of the bulb in parts in Spring time only.

There are some 6 to 10 species of Agapanthus but the most famous are _

- Agapanthus Africanus (in photo)  BLUE flowers

- Agapanthus campanulatus  WHITE flowers 

- Agapanthus HEADBOURNE  with White or Blue flowers

L'Agapanthe est un bulbe qui appartient à la Famille de Liliaceae et dont l'origene est en Afrique du Sud , en particuleir dans la région entre le Cape et le Fleuve Limpopo. C'est pour cela que, peut-etre, qu'il est habituellement individué comme "Lys du Nil ", mais il n'a rien à partager soit comme Lys (il n'est pas un lys!) soit comme région de provenence , l'Egypt.

On le trouve facilement dans les régions méditerranennes , les plus chaudes, où la période de floraison est entre Mai et Juin lorque que dans les endroits un peu plus frais , la floraison a lieu entre Juillet et Aout .Cette fleur aime donc le soliel, le sol riche et bien drainé .

Il faut toutefois  l'aroser  regulièrement pour garder l'humidité au niveau stable .

La fleur sort sur une tige très longue , à la base de laquelle sortent les longues feuilles vert foncé à forme d'épée .

Sauf pour quelques especes rustiques qui peuvent  vivre jusqu'à - 5°C de temperature , les autres il faut bien  les protéger. Quelques parassites aussi peut attaquer cette plante .Pour la multiplication végétative des Agapanthes , on le fait par graine   ou bien en dividant les rizomes en Printemps
